Tanjore

Tanjore is cheap and cheerful (BYOB, cafe-style furnishings) but the food is really really good.

They serve really authentic south Indian food (lots of dosa, and loads of vegetarain dishes).

It's by no means swanky but is very friendly and certainly worth visiting for the excellent food.
